The Giving of Thanks

The other night, I told my brother Arrow, "Arrow, tommorow we're going to get a present."
"What is it?'' he asked. "I won't tell anyone."
"I don't know what it is," I laughed.
''Who is it from, then?" he asked.
"You''ll find out tommorow," I said.
''When tommrow?'' he asked.
"I don't know,'' I said.
Next morning, we got up at the same time.  "Present day!" I told Arrow. He looked at me glumly.
A while later we were waiting for the Williams to come and pick up a goat. To Arrow and Patience I said,''You'd better go down the driveway."
I really meant for them to wait for their van but instead they both went straight to the mailbox. Soon they came galloping up the driveway. ''There's no present," Arrow said.
''Oh well, they don't put it in the mailbox usually,'' said Noah. "They just put it on the porch."
''No, not this present,'' I said.
''Then it must come in the UPS truck,'' he said.
''No,'' I said. ''It is here right now."
They racked their brains trying to figure out what I was talking about. Some of them said one thing others said, ''No it's gotta be this."
Then finally when I told them what it really was ( Every day is like a present ) they did not act like they had just received a present. They acted like one of their favorite things had just been taken away from them. I was shocked, suddenly Arrow turned around and said ''Today is not a present."
''It is a present," I said. ''It is because God made it to be."
''Well at least it doesn't feel like it,'' he said.
I think this is just a little story to remind us how we should be thankful in all things, because it is all a gift.
